Hoylake is a coastal town at the northwestern tip of the Wirral Peninsula, facing the Irish Sea across the Hoyle Bank sandbanks and linked to West Kirby by the Red Rocks headland and the SSSI dune grassland of the Royal Liverpool Golf Club. The stabilised dunes carry bird's foot trefoil, viper's bugloss and sea holly in summer, and the mature gardens of the substantial Victorian seaside villas along Stanley Road and Meols Drive provide lime, sycamore and hawthorn through the main season. Swarms in Hoylake settle on the lime and sycamore of the large seafront villa gardens, on the sea buckthorn and elder scrub of the Red Rocks dune system towards Hilbre Island, in the chimney stacks of the older terraces near Market Street and Alderley Road, and on the hawthorn of the lane banks between Hoylake and Meols.

The Sefton Coast sand dunes contribute an unusual assortment of forage — sea holly, restharrow, viper's bugloss, wild thyme — feeding urban bees along the coast. Horse chestnut and sycamore in Sefton Park, Calderstones and Birkenhead Park give the early flow; the lime avenues of south Liverpool and Wallasey carry the main June flow. Bramble blankets the Mersey Forest plantings; rosebay willowherb flushes Everton and Kirkby brownfield. A late coastal sea-buckthorn crop at Formby and Crosby is a known supplementary flow before the ivy closes the year.
