County Fermanagh · Swarm collection

Bee swarm in Lisbellaw? Help is a minute away.

Lisbellaw is a village on the upper reaches of the Erne system south-east of Enniskillen, surrounded by the limestone drumlin and lough-dotted landscape that defines County Fermanagh. The village sits on slightly elevated ground above the low-lying Erne lowland, with improved pasture, hay meadows and intact whitethorn hedgerows stretching south toward the Cuilcagh uplands. The small lakes and river channels between Lisbellaw and the Erne carry purple loosestrife, meadowsweet and hemp agrimony through the summer, adding to the standard drumlin hedge flora of hawthorn and sycamore. White clover on the improved grazing is the reliable mid-summer crop. The Cuilcagh Mountain plateau to the south carries modest ling heather from August.

Forage in County Fermanagh

Blackthorn and hawthorn on limestone hedges open the year; sycamore fills May. Lime in Enniskillen gives a strong June flow. Bramble is dense; the lough islands' limestone grassland contributes wild thyme, marjoram and knapweed. Hemp agrimony and purple loosestrife along the Erne and its tributaries carry a long late-summer flow. A modest ling heather crop on the Cuilcagh uplands, and ivy on old lakeside cottages, close a long mild year.
