County Fermanagh · Swarm collection

Bee swarm in Tempo? Help is a minute away.

Tempo is a quiet village on the road between Enniskillen and Maguiresbridge, set in the low drumlin farmland that characterises the eastern shores of Upper Lough Erne. The surrounding landscape is a mosaic of small fields, dense whitethorn and blackthorn hedges, and wet rush-pasture typical of the Erne lowland; the drumlin network is interspersed with small lakes, boggy hollows and scrubby woodland. Hawthorn on the hedgerows provides a strong May flow across this mixed landscape; white clover and red clover on the improved grazing is the main mid-summer crop. Hemp agrimony and purple loosestrife on the wetter ground near the Erne tributaries carry a useful late-summer supplement. The limestone-influenced hedgerows support wild raspberry, elder and bramble.

Forage in County Fermanagh

Blackthorn and hawthorn on limestone hedges open the year; sycamore fills May. Lime in Enniskillen gives a strong June flow. Bramble is dense; the lough islands' limestone grassland contributes wild thyme, marjoram and knapweed. Hemp agrimony and purple loosestrife along the Erne and its tributaries carry a long late-summer flow. A modest ling heather crop on the Cuilcagh uplands, and ivy on old lakeside cottages, close a long mild year.
