Macduff is an active fishing port and market town directly across the Deveron estuary from Banff, its harbour busy with pelagic and demersal vessels and the Macduff Marine Aquarium on the quayside. The Doune hill above the town carries the War Memorial and an extensive scrub and grassland fringe with bramble, gorse and coastal wildflowers; the Banff Bay coastline runs east toward Gardenstown and Pennan on the dramatic Moray Firth cliffs. The Deveron valley farmland inland carries oilseed rape in April and hawthorn blossom in May; the coastal slope gardens and the older residential streets of the town centre carry lime and sycamore into June. The relative shelter of the deep estuary valley gives Macduff a slightly milder microclimate than the fully exposed cliff-top villages to the east.
Collectors here handle swarms in the harbour quarter properties and quayside gardens, on the Doune Hill scrub and bramble above the town, in the limestone garden walls and older properties of Union Road and Duff Street, along the Deveron riverside hawthorn toward Alvah, and on the coastal cliff scrub and gorse margins east toward Gardenstown.

Oilseed rape on the vast arable belt around Inverurie, Turriff and Ellon is the defining early flow — Scotland's single biggest rape region. Hawthorn and sycamore carry the post-rape period; lime lights Aberdeen's granite streets in June. The heather of Royal Deeside, the Ladder Hills and the Cabrach gives one of the finest and most commercially worked heather honey flows in Britain. Bilberry and hill forage add; a short but real ivy flow on the granite villages finishes the year.
