Banff is a historic royal burgh and port town at the mouth of the River Deveron, with one of the finest Georgian town centres in the north-east — Duff House, designed by William Adam and now an outpost of the National Galleries of Scotland, sits in extensive designed grounds whose lime avenues and specimen trees provide exceptional June forage. The Deveron estuary and the Banff Bay shoreline carry sea-aster and coastal scrub; the Deveron valley hawthorn and sycamore hedgerows on the farmland upriver toward Macduff and Turriff give the region one of its most reliable May flows. The surrounding Banffshire arable plain carries oilseed rape in April. Limestone garden walls and the older residential streets of Low Street and High Street provide urban ivy forage in October.

Oilseed rape on the vast arable belt around Inverurie, Turriff and Ellon is the defining early flow — Scotland's single biggest rape region. Hawthorn and sycamore carry the post-rape period; lime lights Aberdeen's granite streets in June. The heather of Royal Deeside, the Ladder Hills and the Cabrach gives one of the finest and most commercially worked heather honey flows in Britain. Bilberry and hill forage add; a short but real ivy flow on the granite villages finishes the year.
