Gowerton is a small town at the gateway to the Gower Peninsula, with its own railway station on the South Wales Main Line and a historic character shaped by tinplate and steel. The town sits between the Loughor estuary saltmarshes and the interior Gower common land, giving local bees an unusual forage range: sea-lavender and sea-aster on the estuary margins, gorse on the commons and limestone grassland at Cefn Bryn are all accessible. Hawthorn and blackthorn are dense on the Gower boundary hedgerows; sycamore lines every street; and the late ivy flow on stone garden walls closes an exceptionally varied year.
Collectors attend swarms on the garden walls and eaves of the older residential streets around Station Road and Waunarlwydd Road, along the Loughor estuary coastal path and its sea-lavender and saltmarsh margins, in the gorse and hawthorn scrub on the approaches to Cefn Bryn, at the railway cutting bramble and willowherb, and in the mature sycamore and elder hedgerows of the farmland lanes towards Penclawdd.

Gower gorse carries a genuinely long forage season, flowering through much of the year and peaking in spring. Blackthorn and hawthorn line the limestone headlands; bramble blankets the cliff paths. The Clyne and Singleton lime avenues give a classic June city flow. Bell and ling heather on Cefn Bryn and the Gower commons produce a strong late-summer crop still commercially worked. Coastal dune sea-lavender, ivy-leaved toadflax and the salt-marsh plants of Penclawdd add character; ivy on limestone village walls finishes the year.
