Sennybridge — Pont Senni — is a village on the upper River Usk between Brecon and Llandovery, known primarily as the location of the Sennybridge Training Area, the Army's largest live-firing range in Wales, which occupies the Mynydd Epynt moorland plateau to the north. The Epynt — a vast, treeless upland of improved and semi-improved grassland and heather-flecked moorland — gives a distinctive dual forage character: the lower slopes carry white clover on improved army grasslands, while the rough moorland ridges above 450 metres carry ling heather and bilberry from late July into September. The Usk valley at Sennybridge is flanked by species-rich flood meadows and bankside willows; the river carries sycamore and ash woodland above the village toward Trecastle. Hawthorn is dense on the lower Epynt hedgerows; bramble fills the Usk valley scrub and the ungrazed field margins throughout summer. The proximity to the Beacons reservoir chain at Usk Reservoir gives access to a lakeside habitat with willow and reed-bed forage.

Spring comes late. Blackthorn and hawthorn carry the early season; sycamore is important on every farmstead. White clover in the hay meadows is still a meaningful flow. The dominant late-summer crop is ling heather across the Brecon Beacons, the Black Mountains and the Cambrian uplands — dark, set, much of it commercially worked. Bilberry and upland grassland herbs add supplements. Bramble fills the sheltered valleys. A modest ivy flow on stone-built villages closes a short year.
