Market Deeping is a market town on the River Welland at the Lincolnshire-Northamptonshire boundary, part of the Deepings cluster of settlements that straddle both sides of the Welland in the southern fenland edge. The Stamford and Bourne BKA covers the area. The flat fen and vale farmland surrounding the town is dominated by oilseed rape in spring; the Welland river-bank willows, sallow and osier beds provide early pollen; the permanent grassland of the old market gardens between the Deepings carries white clover and vetch; and the mature residential garden trees of both Market and West Deeping add lime and sycamore to the summer flow.
Collectors respond regularly to swarms in the garden trees and old stone boundary walls of the Market Place and Church Street conservation area, along the Welland riverside willows and alder carrs between West Deeping and Crowland, in the mature hedge trees of the old enclosure field patterns on the Greatford and Baston roads, and in the loft spaces of the older stone-built cottages of Deeping St James.

Oilseed rape is the defining early Lincolnshire flow, enormous in scale across the Fens and Wolds. Field beans, hawthorn and blackthorn carry the hedgerows. Lime and sweet chestnut line the Georgian streets of Lincoln, Stamford and Boston. Bramble is universal, and rosebay willowherb flushes disused airfields and dismantled rail corridors. The Lincolnshire Wolds, though not high, carry sainfoin and chalk grassland herbs. Coastal buckthorn at Gibraltar Point and ivy in the Wolds villages finish a long year.
