Whitecross is a village in the drumlin belt of mid-Armagh between Keady and Armagh city, surrounded by the intimate patchwork landscape of hawthorn-hedged fields, small woodlands and damp meadows typical of south Ulster. The Apple Blossom Trail — the route through the Armagh orchard belt — runs nearby to the north, and apple orchards are a feature of the better-drained drumlin slopes. Whin is common on the rougher ground and the field margins of the higher drumlins. The area is classic bee-forage country: a long spring blossom from hawthorn and fruit trees, followed by white clover in the low pastures. The Institute of Northern Ireland Beekeepers serves this part of mid-Armagh.
Collectors cover swarms in the hawthorn and whin on the drumlin field banks around the village, in the apple orchards on the drumlin slopes north toward the Armagh fruit belt, in the walled gardens and outbuildings of the residential farms, along the damp meadow stream margins, and in the eaves and stone walls of the older farmhouses.

Apple blossom in the Loughgall, Portadown and Richhill orchards gives one of the most concentrated early pollination flows in the British Isles. Hawthorn and sycamore follow. Lime lines the Georgian streets of Armagh city. Bramble is dense on the small-field landscape; clover still matters on pasture. The Ring of Gullion and the Sperrins edge contribute bilberry and late ling heather. Ivy on whitewashed cottage walls closes a long, hedge-rich season.
