Winsford is a large town on the River Weaver in Cheshire West, its industrial past rooted in rock-salt extraction and brine pumping and its modern character shaped by planned expansion as an overspill town in the 1960s. The Mid-Cheshire Beekeepers Association covers the area, and the landscape around it — the Weaver valley willows and rush-margined meadows at Vale Royal, the hedgerow hawthorn and field maple of the Cheshire plain farmland east of the town, the oilseed rape on the open fields of Darnhall and Moulton, and the mature lime and sycamore in the older residential streets — gives local bees a productive and varied lowland season.
Collectors regularly attend swarms in the sycamore and lime trees of the Wharton Road and Weaver Street residential gardens, along the Weaver Navigation hawthorn and elder hedges at Newbridge and Wharton, in the rough scrub and bramble on the old brine-subsidence hollows and Whitegate Way rail-trail margins, and in the eaves and cavity walls of the older brick terraces around Bradford Street and Station Road.

Oilseed rape is heavy on the lighter soils of Mid Cheshire; hawthorn, sycamore and willow line the field margins. The mosses — Delamere, Holcroft, Risley — contribute a patchy but useful late crop with bog-myrtle and cross-leaved heath. Lime lights the streets of Chester, Nantwich, Crewe and Knutsford. Bramble is dense along every canal corridor, and a small hill heather supplement comes from the Peckforton and Bickerton ridge. Cheshire's pastoral landscape means white clover is still an honest flow, and ivy closes the year on half-timbered village walls.
