Llanybydder is a small market town on the River Teifi midway between Lampeter and Newcastle Emlyn, best known across Wales and beyond for its monthly horse fair — one of the oldest and most celebrated in Britain, drawing buyers and sellers from across Europe on the last Thursday of each month. The town sits on the southern bank of the Teifi where the valley opens between wooded hillsides of oak and hazel, and the surrounding farmland is a mosaic of old hay meadows, river-bank pasture and hedge-bounded arable that gives honey bees one of the most varied mid-season forage menus in Carmarthenshire. Sycamore on the lane trees and riverside willows carries the May flow; white clover on the improved pastures of the Teifi valley floor is the main June and July source. The oakwoods and hazel coppice on the valley sides above the town hold a scatter of field maple and hawthorn that extend the blossom season into early summer. The river corridor itself provides willowherb, balsam and meadowsweet through late summer, and ivy on the old chapel and farmhouse walls closes the year in October.
Collectors attend swarms in the older stone and render properties of the town centre and High Street, in the horse-fair paddocks and livestock-market outbuildings on the edge of town, along the Teifi riverside alders and willows toward Llanfihangel-ar-arth, in the valley-side oak and hazel coppice above the village, and in the farm outbuildings on the plateau farmland between Llanybydder and the Ceredigion boundary to the north.

Blackthorn and hawthorn in the Tywi and Teifi valleys open the year. Sycamore is everywhere; white clover in the hay meadows still matters. Lime in Carmarthen, Llanelli, Llandeilo and Ammanford gives a strong June flow. The Black Mountain contributes bell and ling heather in August. Bilberry on the Brechfa oakwoods supplements; bramble is dense; ivy on whitewashed farmhouses closes a long dairy-country season.
