Radyr is a prosperous village suburb in northwest Cardiff with its own railway station on the Cardiff Valleys Line, a historic church of St John the Baptist, a distinctive golf course and large private gardens that make it one of the greenest corners of the city. The River Taff passes to the east and its corridor carries mature limes, alders and meadowsweet in summer. Hawthorn hedgerows on the agricultural fringe towards Morganstown, sycamore on the lanes and horse chestnuts in the churchyard and golf course boundaries give a long and varied forage season.

Early flows come from cherry plum and blackthorn in Bute and Roath parks. Sycamore and horse chestnut fill May; the lime collection in Bute Park is one of the largest in any UK city, giving a classic pale urban lime honey in June. Bramble is dense along the Taff Trail; rosebay willowherb flushes the former dock brownfield of Cardiff Bay. Coastal sea-lavender and samphire at Rhymney Great Wharf add a distinctive saline note; ivy on Victorian terraces closes the year.
