Gabalfa is a compact suburb between Llandaff and Heath in north Cardiff, its terraced housing streets and the Gabalfa recreation ground giving it a quiet residential character close to the city centre. The Nant Fawr corridor carrying the stream through Roath Park reaches north through the district and its tree-lined banks carry sycamore, elder and bramble. The recreation ground and the mature garden trees of the older properties carry the June lime and sycamore flow, and the proximity to Pontcanna and Llandaff meadows keeps the forage calendar diverse throughout the year.
Collectors attend swarms on the garden walls and chimney pots of the terraced streets along Mynachdy Road and Gabalfa Avenue, in the trees and shrub borders of Gabalfa Recreation Ground, along the Nant Fawr brook corridor and its elder and bramble, in the sycamore and lime street trees of North Road, and in the mature hedgerow gardens of the older properties near Llandaff Fields.

Early flows come from cherry plum and blackthorn in Bute and Roath parks. Sycamore and horse chestnut fill May; the lime collection in Bute Park is one of the largest in any UK city, giving a classic pale urban lime honey in June. Bramble is dense along the Taff Trail; rosebay willowherb flushes the former dock brownfield of Cardiff Bay. Coastal sea-lavender and samphire at Rhymney Great Wharf add a distinctive saline note; ivy on Victorian terraces closes the year.
