Finchampstead is a parish of heath, pines and scattered settlement in east Berkshire at the edge of the Thames Basin heaths, where sandy soils carry ling heather, cross-leaved heath, heather, gorse and silver birch scrub across the common lands between Wokingham and Sandhurst. The California Country Park lakes and the Finchampstead Ridges National Trust heathland together give local bees an unusual late-summer heather flow, while the ornamental lime and horse chestnut trees of the older village centre and the bramble-dense woodland rides around California provide consistent mid-summer forage. Wokingham BKA serves this part of the county.
Collectors here attend swarms on the ling heather and gorse scrub of the Finchampstead Ridges and California Country Park margins, in the mature garden and churchyard trees of St James' church and the older village properties along Church Lane, in the pine and birch branches of the woodland edges toward the B3348, and in the chimney stacks and roof voids of the Victorian and Edwardian houses in the Finchampstead village centre.

The chalk of the Berkshire Downs around Lambourn provides sainfoin, wild thyme and knapweed; oilseed rape bridges the early flow. Windsor Great Park contributes a textbook June lime and sweet-chestnut crop, while Swinley and Crowthorne heaths give a late bell and ling heather flow on the sandy commons — one of the strongest heathland flows in southern England. Rosebay willowherb fills the MoD and railway land corridors, and ivy on the Thames-side villages closes the year.
